My Commitment to Ethics

A Personal Commitment

I am Mathias Meyer, founder of Glórias and responsible for all preliminary evaluations and certifications issued by the company.

Over many years dedicated to the study of autographs, manuscripts, and historical documents, I have come to a simple conviction: a certificate only holds value when the market fully trusts the independence, rigor, and integrity of the person who signs it.

This trust is not earned through advertising. It is built slowly, opinion after opinion, certificate after certificate, decision after decision.

For this reason, I have established ethical principles that personally guide all my evaluations, certifications, and professional decisions.

Every preliminary evaluation and every certificate issued by Glórias reflects my personal responsibility as an expert. My reputation depends on the objectivity, consistency, and honesty of every conclusion I sign.

My Mission

My mission has never been to issue the largest possible number of certificates.

My goal is to provide technically sound evaluations and certifications so that collectors, buyers, sellers, museums, institutions, and auction houses can make decisions with greater confidence.

I believe that, in the long run, the credibility of certificates issued by Glórias will be much more important than the quantity of certificates issued.

Independence before any commercial interest

My work consists of answering, as objectively as possible, two fundamental questions:

  • Is the item authentic?
  • What is its likely value range in the collector's market?

To answer these questions, I exclusively use technical criteria, such as:

  • graphological analysis;
  • provenance analysis;
  • comparison with reference examples;
  • historical coherence;
  • market knowledge.

I never allow commercial interests to influence my conclusions.

Evaluation always comes before sale

I have structured Glórias' activity so that technical analysis is always completed before any discussion about a potential sale.

The process always follows the same sequence:

  1. Preliminary evaluation;
  2. Certification, when technically justified;
  3. Potential commercialization, only if the owner wishes.

This organization was created precisely to protect my independence as an expert and ensure that my conclusions are made before any financial interest related to the sale of the item exists.

Not every item can be certified

I daily receive objects whose owners expect to obtain a certificate of authenticity.

However, I do not issue certificates to meet expectations or to increase my revenue.

I only certify an item when the available evidence technically supports that conclusion. In practice, this means that I refuse to certify a significant portion of the items I analyze.

These refusals often represent disappointed clients and loss of revenue for Glórias. Still, I believe that preserving the credibility of the certificates I sign is much more important than issuing a larger number of certificates.

An expert's reputation is built as much by the certificates they issue as by those they choose not to issue.

Provenance is also part of the analysis

The authenticity of a historical document or an autograph does not depend solely on the signature.

Whenever possible, I also analyze:

  • the item's origin;
  • its historical context;
  • its chain of ownership;
  • complementary documents;
  • previous certificates;
  • sales records;
  • any information capable of strengthening or weakening its credibility.

Solid provenance never replaces technical analysis.

Similarly, the absence of complete documentation does not necessarily mean that an item is inauthentic. Many historical documents have circulated for decades among collectors without formal records.

For this reason, I try to analyze each case considering all available evidence.

Glórias' collection

Over more than fifteen years, I have also built my own collection of historical documents and autographs.

Items belonging to Glórias are acquired exclusively through means considered lawful and compatible with the best practices of the manuscript, autograph, and historical document market.

Whenever possible, I preserve information related to the origin, chain of ownership, complementary documents, previous certificates, and circulation history of each piece. I do not trade dubious items whose origin presents relevant inconsistencies or incompatibility with ethical or legal principles.

When an item belongs to the Glórias collection, this information is always transparently indicated.

The same analysis criteria, the same methodology, and the same level of demand are applied to my own items and to items entrusted by clients. My independence does not change depending on who owns the item.

Commercialization and conflicts of interest

Many clients seek me out because they wish to sell their items.

For this reason, Glórias offers, when appropriate, the possibility of commercialization through a specialized partner auctioneer. This activity is completely distinct from evaluation and certification.

If the owner chooses this solution, Glórias may receive an intermediation commission paid by the partner responsible for the sale. This remuneration never influences my technical conclusions.

When I propose an item for commercialization, my evaluation and, if it exists, my certification have already been completed and cannot be modified based on the sale.

I only forward for commercialization items previously certified according to Glórias' methodology. This requirement exists to offer future buyers a high level of security, transparency, and trust. Naturally, the owner remains completely free to sell their item by any other means.

My commitment to independence applies in exactly the same way whether the item's owner is a client, a collector, a dealer, an auction house, or even a competitor of Glórias.

Respect for all clients

I believe that ethics is not limited to how I analyze an item. It also reflects how I treat people.

For this reason, I strive to serve all clients with the same respect, attention, and professionalism, regardless of who they are or the economic value of the item presented.

I make no distinction between:

  • an experienced collector and someone who just found a document in a drawer;
  • a private client and a market professional;
  • a small autograph and a piece of exceptional historical value;
  • a regular client and someone contacting for the first time;
  • a commercial partner and a competitor of Glórias.

Each request deserves to be analyzed seriously.

I commit to responding to all messages received, usually within 24 business hours, always striving to offer clear, honest guidance and, whenever possible, a solution adapted to each person's needs.

I may not always be able to issue a certificate or accept a commercialization, but I believe that every client deserves to receive a respectful, reasoned, and transparent response.

Transparency

I believe that trust also depends on transparency.

For this reason:

  • I clearly identify when an item belongs to the Glórias collection;
  • I inform when Glórias may receive remuneration for intermediating a sale;
  • I publicly explain my working methodology;
  • I technically justify the conclusions of the certificates I issue;
  • I strive to answer clients', collectors', buyers', and sellers' questions with clarity and transparency.

I do not ask the market to trust my opinions. I seek to demonstrate, through the quality of my analyses and the consistency of my decisions, that this trust has been earned.

My commitments

I commit to:

  • applying the same methodology to all items, regardless of their owner;
  • treating all clients with the same respect, attention, and professionalism, without any discrimination;
  • responding to all requests, usually within 24 business hours;
  • justifying my conclusions exclusively based on technical, historical, and documentary criteria;
  • never issuing a certificate when evidence is insufficient;
  • completing all evaluations and certifications before any commercial negotiation;
  • clearly separating evaluation, certification, and commercialization activities;
  • transparently disclosing any remuneration resulting from the intermediation of a sale;
  • respecting Brazilian legislation related to historical, documentary, and cultural heritage;
  • preserving my independence above any short-term economic interest.

My Vision

I am convinced that the credibility of a certificate depends as much on the technical competence of the issuer as on the trust the market places in their independence.

My goal is for every certificate issued by Glórias to be recognized, in Brazil and internationally, as a rigorous, transparent, and reliable technical document.

I do not intend to build this reputation through promises, but through the consistency of my decisions, the quality of my analyses, and the independence I strive to preserve in every opinion and every certificate.

Independence gives credibility to the certificate. Credibility generates trust. And trust is Glórias' most valuable asset.
