Yes. Every certification begins with an appraisal. It allows us to verify that the item falls within the scope of our service and that there is sufficient evidence for the analysis to be completed, so you never pay for a certificate that cannot be issued. You also receive an opinion on authenticity and an estimate of market value, so you can decide with confidence whether certification is worthwhile.

Yes. After the appraisal, you receive via WhatsApp a R$ 90 discount code to use when purchasing the certificate for the same item. For example, for an item with one signature, you pay R$ 90 for the appraisal and R$ 400 for the certification, for a total of R$ 490.

You are not obliged to proceed with certification. If the appraisal shows that there is not enough evidence to support a conclusion, Mathias Meyer will let you know and the certification will not be carried out. In both cases, you only pay for the appraisal, which is non-refundable.

In most cases, you do not need to send the item. The analysis can be carried out remotely, using high-resolution photographs, provenance information and other evidence requested by Mathias Meyer.

In specific cases, Mathias Meyer may ask for the item to be sent physically.

Certification combines two main technical analyses: analysis of the signature or manuscript, by comparison with authentic examples, and analysis of the item's provenance.

Where relevant, the support, the historical context and any other available evidence are also taken into account.
