This is an original advertising leaflet, printed in the United States in 1919, promoting the book Text Book of Applied Aeronautic Engineering, by Henry Woodhouse, one of the main references on aeronautical engineering at the time. The advertisement reproduces a long statement by Alberto Santos Dumont recommending the work and highlighting its importance for the development of aviation. Immediately below the printed text, Santos Dumont signed the piece in his own hand. On the verso, there is the complete index of the publication.

In 1919, aviation was undergoing a phase of profound transformation. World War I had accelerated the technological development of aircraft, and engineers, manufacturers, and pilots sought to consolidate the knowledge acquired during the conflict. Although he had already retired from aeronautical activity, Santos Dumont remained one of the greatest world authorities on the subject. His name was synonymous with innovation and credibility, which is why Henry Woodhouse used his statement to present the work to the American technical public. The association between the two reflects the enormous international prestige that Santos Dumont still enjoyed little more than a decade after his most celebrated flights.

This autograph brings together characteristics difficult to find in a single piece. In addition to the large and very well-preserved signature, the medium has strong historical relevance, as it is directly related to aeronautical engineering and the international recognition of Santos Dumont as a technical reference. Unlike letters, business cards, or photographs normally found on the market, this document positions him as a guarantor of an important specialized work published at a time when aviation was entering a new era. It is, therefore, a rare piece, combining autograph, aviation history, and documentary context in a particularly compelling way.
