Pelé's move to the New York Cosmos in 1975 represented a milestone in the history of world soccer and in the popularization of the sport in the United States. Already established as the greatest player of all time, his arrival in the North American Soccer League (NASL) brought unprecedented visibility to soccer in the country, attracting crowds to stadiums and increasing media and sponsor interest. Pelé not only raised the technical level of the league but also helped transform soccer into a cultural phenomenon in the USA, inspiring new generations of players and contributing to the growth of the sport that, decades later, would result in the strengthening of Major League Soccer (MLS).
Pelé signed many autographs throughout his life, but the lengthy dedications, written on photographs of him during his time with Cosmos, are among the rarest and most sought after. This is especially relevant with the approach of the next FIFA World Cup, which will be held in 2026 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
