Signing an autograph for an admirer is showing him respect and sympathy. Charles Dumont, January 13, 1999.
Charles Dumont (born 1929) is an actor, singer and, above all, one of the most important composers in French culture. Until the 1960s, he wrote songs for Dalida, Luis Mariano and Tino Rossi. At the same time, he decided to work with another great composer, Michel Vaucaire: in 1956, they created the classic "Non, je ne regrette rien" for Édith Piaf. After that, Charles Dumont composed more than thirty songs for the singer.
In 1963, when Piaf died, Charles Dumont began composing for Jacques Brel, the famous Belgian singer, and the American singer Barbra Streisand. He also composed music for television (Michel Vaillant in 1967) and cinema (Trafic by Jacques Tati in 1971). In the 1970s, he began a more personal career, performing - with great popular success - his compositions in which love and women are always his greatest inspiration.
This original autograph demonstrates the true - and rare - humility of an artist, recognizing the "value" of his audience. This item belonged to the French collector Thierry A. A friend of his, Philippe, also a collector, approached Charles Dumont in Paris, on Avenue Montaigne on January 13, 1999.
