In 1972, Bruce Lee reportedly signed two autographs in Italy on receipts for movie props.

  • Two autographs attributed to Bruce Lee, one for “Christine” and one for an unknown fan.
  • In Chinese and English.
  • +/- 20 cm x 30 cm and +/- 10 cm x 15 cm.
  • 1972?
  • Average conservation status.
  • Unique pieces.

The two autographs were found together in a garage in Marseille, France, in 2022, along with a Juventus Turin football banner from the 1972–73 season. These items may have been obtained from Italian stores specializing in clothing and jewelry for the film industry, as the former owner of the garage, now deceased, was a film propsman. It is hypothesized that Bruce Lee signed these items while in Italy after September 1972, when the banner was likely produced.

Only one Bruce Lee film was partially filmed in Italy: The Way of the Dragon (1972), also known as Return of the Dragon . This was the only feature film directed by Lee and the last film released during his lifetime. The final fight scene between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris is widely considered one of the greatest fight sequences in cinema history. In addition to these two previously unpublished autographs, there is something particularly notable on the first sheet: Bruce Lee's dedication, "Peace and Love," of which, to my knowledge, there are no other known copies, which is somewhat paradoxical considering the violence of his films. I still have a few questions: could Bruce Lee have also written the Chinese symbols on both sheets? Could he have written Chinese? And who could Christine be?

There are many fake Bruce Lee autographs, and the opinions of Bruce Lee experts we consulted in Europe, the United States and Asia are divergent on these two pieces: for the majority, they are authentic; for some, there is some doubt (slightly shaky writing for the second one). Our intuition as experts in rare autographs is 90% positive. We never present autograph documents that raise doubts, we are always absolutely sure of their authenticity, but we are making an exception here to show and offer these autographs and perhaps get confirmation from some expert collectors.
