In 1972, Bruce Lee reportedly signed two autographs in Italy on receipts for film props.

  • Two autographs attributed to Bruce Lee, one for "Christine" and another for an unknown fan.
  • In Chinese and English.
  • +/- 20 cm x 30 cm and +/- 10 cm x 15 cm.
  • 1972?
  • Average state of preservation.
  • Unique pieces.

The two autographs were found together in a garage in Marseille, France, in 2022, along with a Juventus football banner from the 1972-1973 season. These items may have been obtained from Italian shops specializing in clothing and jewelry for the film industry, as the garage's former owner, now deceased, was a film accessories specialist. It is hypothesized that Bruce Lee signed these items while in Italy, after September 1972, when the banner was likely produced.

Only one Bruce Lee film was partially filmed in Italy: The Way of the Dragon (1972), also known as The Return of the Dragon . This was the only feature film directed by Lee and the last film released during his lifetime. The final fight scene between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris is widely considered one of the greatest fight sequences in film history. Besides these two previously unpublished autographs, there is something particularly noteworthy on the first page: Bruce Lee's dedication, "Peace and Love," of which, as far as I know, no other known copies exist, which is somewhat paradoxical considering the violence of his films. I still have some questions: could Bruce Lee have also written Chinese symbols on both pages? Did he know how to write in Chinese? And who could Christine be?

There are many forged Bruce Lee autographs, and the opinions of the Bruce Lee experts we consulted in Europe, the United States, and Asia are divided on these two pieces: for most, they are authentic; for some, there is doubt (the writing is a little shaky for the second one). Our intuition as experts in rare autographs is 90% positive. We never present autograph documents that generate doubt; we are always absolutely certain of their authenticity, but we are making an exception here to show and offer these autographs and perhaps obtain confirmation from some expert collectors.
