Ella Fitzgerald, known as the "First Lady of Song," was one of the greatest voices of the 20th century, celebrated for her impeccable technique, her unparalleled scat singing, and her ability to transform any song into pure musical elegance. Throughout a career spanning more than half a century, she won 14 Grammys and collaborated with names such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Frank Sinatra. Her active career extended from the 1930s to the late 1980s, a period in which she performed on the world's leading stages, from Carnegie Hall to the great jazz clubs of New York, in addition to extensive tours of Europe.

A coat hanger is not a common support for an autograph, and it is very likely that this one was signed spontaneously backstage at a concert, possibly between the 1960s and 1970s, perhaps at the request of someone who worked at the venue, such as a dressing room or lounge attendant. Ella Fitzgerald rarely visited Brazil, especially in the 1960s, during international tours, with performances mainly in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The signature shows some hesitation, which is understandable given the difficulty of writing on such a narrow and slightly rounded wooden support.

The improvised nature of the support, combined with the signature of one of the most important artists in the history of jazz, makes this piece a very unique object.
