In this letter, Getúlio Vargas, then governor of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, writes to Congressman Álvaro Baptista to respond to a request regarding Dr. Homero Martins Baptista, who was apparently a magistrate and a relative of the congressman. Vargas expresses his willingness to assist with the congressman's request by facilitating the redeployment (transfer or promotion) of Dr. Homero as soon as a suitable vacancy arises in a district that suits him. He emphasizes that he personally supports this request, both because of the magistrate's personal merits and because of his friendship with the congressman.

In 1928, Getúlio Vargas was president of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, a position equivalent to that of governor. Two years later, in 1930, he would lead the Revolution of 1930, which would lead him to the presidency of Brazil, marking the beginning of his great political influence in the country.

This letter illustrates well the network of political relationships and favors that was common in Brazilian politics at the time.

Personal letters from Getúlio Vargas are rare, and this president, perhaps because of his tragic end, is one of the most remembered by Brazilians.
