In 1860, Princess Leopoldina, then 13 years old, lived in the Imperial Palace as the daughter of Dom Pedro II and sister of Princess Isabel. Her daily life was marked by a rigorous education with private tutors, studying languages, music, religion, history, and the arts, in addition to learning traditional activities such as piano and embroidery. She also participated in outings and social events alongside her family, always prepared to assume a diplomatic role in the future through marriage to a European prince—which would indeed happen a few years later.
This letter is interesting because it reveals an intimate and everyday moment in the life of Princess Leopoldina, written during her childhood in 1860. The signature "Leopoldina Thereza" is also rare.
