In 1860, Princess Leopoldina, then 13 years old, lived in the Imperial Palace as the daughter of Dom Pedro II and sister of Princess Isabel. Her daily life was marked by a rigorous education with private tutors, studying languages, music, religion, history and arts, in addition to learning traditional activities such as piano and embroidery. She also participated in outings and social events with her family, always prepared to assume, in the future, a diplomatic role through marriage to a European prince — which in fact would happen a few years later.
This letter is interesting because it reveals an intimate and everyday moment of Princess Leopoldina, written in her childhood, in 1860. The signature “Leopoldina Thereza” is also rare.
