To my kind friend Maurizio Grandis Cecchione Thank you, Villa-Lobos Rome 15/3/48
In 1948, at the age of 61, Villa-Lobos already had consolidated international recognition. That year, he faced significant personal challenges, including surgery to treat bladder cancer. In addition, he married Arminda Neves d'Almeida, known as "Mindinha," who was his companion until the end of his life and responsible for preserving and promoting his work after his death. Despite his health problems, Villa-Lobos maintained his creative productivity, continuing to compose and perform. One of his notable compositions from this period is the "Piano Concerto No. 2," completed in 1948.
We haven't identified "Maurizio Grandis Cecchione" and we're not sure of the correct spelling of that name! However, an extensive dedication, accompanied by a large black and white photograph of the maestro at work, is unusual and gives the item special value.
