Autógrafo e dedicátoria de Vinton Cerf (2011)

Autograph and dedication by Vinton Cerf (2011)

Mathias Meyer

The co-creator of the internet signed a Google business card and sent a visionary email to Sofia.

Google business card of Vinton G. Cerf, signed by him. In English. 9 cm x 5 cm. United States, undated. Excellent condition.

To verify the authenticity of this item and to explain the Glories for Sofia project, I emailed Cerf, who replied:

The card is legitimate. Your daughter was born in an era of discovery unlike any other in history. We know less about the universe now than we thought we would 100 years ago. Dark matter and energy make up 96% of the universe – and we know almost nothing about them. Your daughter will live to see a world we can only vaguely imagine.

Widely known as the "father of the internet," Vinton Cerf (born in 1943) co-designed, with Kahn, the TCP/IP protocols and the basic architecture of the Internet. His work on the software code used to transmit data over the Internet placed him at the forefront of a digital revolution that transformed global commerce, communication, and entertainment. In 2011, he was nominated, along with Kahn, for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Currently, Vinton G. Cerf is responsible for identifying new technologies and applications on the internet and other platforms for Google. Founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google's mission from the beginning has been "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful."

Why is this document rare?

Despite having contributed to the invention of the internet, which has profoundly changed the daily lives of billions of people, Vinton Cerf demonstrates great humility in his email to Sofia... highlighting the fact that Earth – with its inventions and discoveries – is a drop in the ocean in our vast, unknown universe.
