Luigi Denza (1846 - 1922) was an Italian composer. He was director of the London Academy of Music and President of the prestigious Royal Academy of Music, both in London. Denza wrote hundreds of songs, sung by the greatest opera singers such as Luciano Pavarotti and Enrico Caruso. The most famous was "Funiculì, Funiculà," which became a great popular success and was mistakenly used by Richard Strauss.
