Ayrton Senna's autographs are highly sought after. He has many fans in Brazil and around the world. Consequently, there are also many counterfeit or reproduction autographs. We collectors know this and are very careful. This autograph is only the third one I have acquired. All of them were acquired in France, after extensive research. The autograph mentioned, in addition to having unquestionable graphic characteristics, also has an excellent provenance. It was obtained by a former employee of the magazine who worked in the postal department.

In 1988, Senna won his first world title, lost to Prost in 1989, and won the next two. In 1990, he won his second world title, again after an intense battle with Alain Prost, his eternal rival, and the famous accident caused by Senna, in Suzuka, in October.

Before that, in July, Prost won three consecutive races, while the Brazilian, who had finished third in the French and British Grands Prix, finished second in the championship, two points behind. It was on the occasion of this French Grand Prix that Senna visited the sports magazine L'Équipe to meet the journalists, take photos and sign some covers (it is estimated that there were about ten, the only known one being this one) of this special edition about him, published on the eve of the Brazilian Grand Prix, a few months earlier, in March.

Created in 1946, the French sports magazine L'Équipe awards the Champion of Champions trophy in December of each year to the most successful “World” athletes. Ayrton Senna won this important distinction in 1990, the year of this exceptional autograph by the driver who became a Brazilian idol, and beyond, an international one.
