Legendary boxer Jack Dempsey signs a beautiful vintage postcard depicting his first world title.
Vintage postcard with an autograph by Jack Dempsey. 14cm x 8.6cm. New York, no date information. Some moisture stains, but in good condition. Single piece.
On the front it is printed: Jack Dempsey knocks out Jess Willard and becomes champion of the world. July 4, 1919
On the back, Jack Dempsey wrote: To Jacob, lots of luck friend, Jack Dempsey
Jack Dempsey (1895 - 1983) was the first boxer to become a great celebrity, being three times heavyweight world champion, between 1919 and 1926. He invented his own style admired - and reproduced - by other boxers, such as Mohamed Ali or Mike Tyson. He was part of the Hall of Fame of the best boxers in history and continues to be revered in the United States, as an athlete and a person, 30 years after his death.
During his retirement, between 1935 and 1974, Jack Dempsey opened and managed his own restaurant in New York, on Broadway avenue, where he used to sign autographs on cards representing his great fights. Consequently, this document is not very rare, but the image and autograph together, being beautiful and well preserved, make an ideal gift or the first item in a collection.
