Jorge Amado (1912 - 2001) is one of the most famous Brazilian writers of all time. His works are regularly adapted for television, cinema, theater and samba schools throughout Brazil. He wrote 49 books, which have been translated into 55 countries.
Amado was born and spent his childhood in Ilhéus, in the state of Bahia, which was the inspiration for several novels. Social problems, politics, beliefs, traditions, and the sensuality of the Brazilian people were his favorite themes.
He came to Rio de Janeiro to study and became interested in art and political discussions, especially with the communist movement. Later, he became a congressman and author of the laws that guarantee religious freedom and copyright.
In this letter, written in English, Jorge Amado humbly thanks the recipient for their opinions on his work.
An interesting document to better understand the career and personality of this great Brazilian author.
