Jorge Amado (1912 - 2001) is one of the most famous Brazilian writers of all time. His works are regularly adapted on television, cinema, theater and samba schools throughout Brazil. He wrote 49 books, translated in 55 countries.
Amado was born and spent his childhood in Ilhéus, state of Bahia, inspiration for several novels. Social problems, politics, beliefs, traditions and the sensuality of the Brazilian people were his favorite themes.
He came to Rio de Janeiro to study and became interested in art and political discussions, especially with the communist movement. Later, he became a deputy and author of laws guaranteeing religious freedom and copyright.
In this letter, written in English, Jorge Amado humbly thanks the recipient for their views on his work. An interesting document to better understand the career and personality of this great Brazilian author.
