Known as JK, he was mayor of Belo Horizonte (1940 - 1945), governor of Minas Gerais (1951 - 1955), and president of Brazil (1956 - 1961). He organized the construction of the new Federal Capital, Brasília, an old project with the aim of promoting the development of the interior of Brazil. During his mandate, Brazil experienced a period of good economic development and relative political stability.

Innovative in his way of governing, Juscelino Kubitschek (1902 - 1976) is considered one of the best presidents Brazil has ever had, mainly due to his achievements and his respect for democratic institutions. In 2001, he was elected "Brazilian of the Century" by readers of Isto É magazine.
