My dear friend,
Thank you for your Happy New Year message. I also wish you and your family a very happy 1927. I have just come to Gstaad, which is only two hours from Val-Mont and it seems to me that it is already the end of the world!
I skied a little, but it was so hard that I haven't been skiing for the last eight days. Are you going to Megève?
Friendships,
Santos Dumont
At the time, Santos Dumont (1873 - 1932), who was ill and undergoing treatment in Switzerland, wrote in French to Paul Tissandier (1881 - 1945), son of the Frenchman Gaston Tissandier, a famous engine inventor. Trained as a pilot by the American brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright, Paul also had experience with dirigible balloons, airboats, cars and machines, all of which he used to set many speed records. Thus, a great friendship was born between Santos Dumont and Tissandier.
Long letters from Santos Dumont are rare and highly sought after. This document is in very good condition, and the recipient is an important historical figure. Furthermore, it is unpublished in Brazil, having been acquired by the Tissandier family in France in 2018.
