R. Peynet

Raymond Peynet (1908 - 1999) was a French designer, born in Paris, who created in 1942 a famous work showing a couple in love, "les amoureux de Peynet", which internationally symbolizes French romanticism, celebrating love with great poetry , boyfriends... values and feelings perhaps mistreated by society today.

Peynet's original drawings are extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors all over the world, especially in Europe, the United States and Japan. There are four museums in the world dedicated exclusively to Raymond Peynet's works, two in France and two in Japan.

This letter, written in 1944, in the middle of the Second World War, has very interesting content that allows us to understand the artist's technique for creating his drawings and how he worked with his partners; in this case, Raymond Peynet accepted an exchange of favors, a drawing for a bookbinding. The artist also mentions a gift that he will send to the recipient of the letter, the book "the chapeau de paille d'Italie", written by the famous French author Eugène Labiche, which Peynet illustrated.
