French transcription

My dear Patricia,

I am ashamed, but once again this music has driven me to distraction… palpitations, cold sweats, despair! This needs to be analyzed. But how can I then consider participating in your ballet? You surely can't have your "elite woman in grey silk" dance to the music of Lully or Geminiani. Today I'm going into the countryside, I send you my best wishes and my apologies. Vasarely

Translation in Portuguese

My dear Patricia,

I'm ashamed, but once again this music has driven me crazy… palpitations, cold sweats, despair! This needs to be analyzed. But how can I then imagine participating in your ballet? You can't yet make your "elite woman in grey silk" dance to the music of Lulli or Geminiani. I'm going to the countryside today, I kiss you and I apologize. Vasarely

Victor Vasarely (1906-1997) is a unique visual artist in the history of 20th-century art. A true star of the 60s and 70s, he stands out in contemporary art for creating a new trend: Op Art. His mark is found in fashion; in music, David Bowie used one of his paintings for the cover of "Space Oddity"; in automobiles, he redesigned the Renault logo; among other things.

It is the Vasarely Foundation in Aix-en-Provence, in the south of France, that has kept the artistic legacy of the master of optics alive for forty years and maintains the myth. The building, designed by Victor Vasarely himself, was classified as a historical monument in 2016. It welcomes visitors who wish to learn more about the unforgettable and avant-garde work of a world-famous artist whose autographs rarely appear on the market. This letter is the first available in at least 10 years.
