I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of the official letter in which Your Excellency communicates that you have appointed me a member of a committee (...) which must represent the Geographical Society of Rio de Janeiro at the 6th International Geographical Congress, which meets in London in August 1895. With the same letter, I had the honor of receiving the diploma of corresponding member of the society.

(...) I assure you that I will do everything in my power to be able to attend the sessions of Congress (...)

In this correspondence, Baron of Rio Branco expressed his gratitude for being appointed to participate in a commission that would represent society at the 6th International Congress of Geography, to be held in London in August 1895.

This document is very significant because it shows his role as the main Brazilian diplomat in Washington, reinforcing his stature as an important figure in geographic and border issues.
