My dear friend You can come home at a quarter to two But not at the Palace Bar
Santos Dumont (1873 - 1932) left with his father and family for France on April 6, 1891, when he was 17 years old. He lived in Paris for two decades, from 1892 to 1914.
He would later write: “While still young, I made my first ascent in Paris. In Paris I met balloon builders, engine makers, mechanics, all as patient as they were experts. In Paris I made all my first experiments…”
In 1901, a dirigible balloon flew around the Eiffel Tower for the first time in history and the pilot, Alberto Santos Dumont, would become the first Brazilian celebrity known worldwide.
Documents autographed by Alberto Santos Dumont are rare and highly sought after, especially those in excellent condition. This is the case of this small business card made in his famous residence on the Champs-Elysées in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century.
