Edmund Hillary (1919 - 2008) was the first man, along with Sherpa Tensing Norgay, to reach the top of Everest (8,534 meters), the highest mountain in the world, on May 29, 1953. He was a true explorer when there were still unknown places to explore and without much technology.
After this adventure, Hillary dedicated a large part of her life to helping the Sherpa people through her NGO Himalayan Trust: in this way, she managed to build many schools and hospitals in the isolated Himalayan region.
Only three drawings by Edmund Hillary are known to exist in the world, including this one that belonged to a French admirer who wrote directly to Edmund Hillary's home in New Zealand, who replied by post. The authenticity was confirmed by the director of the library at the Auckland Museum in New Zealand.
