4315 Marilyn Monroe in class at the Actors Studio in 1955 (...)
Marilyn Monroe (1926 - 1962) was an American actress, cultural icon and symbol of sensuality, who became famous throughout the world. Marilyn began her film career in 1946 after working as a model. In 1955 he began studying acting at the Actors Studio to prepare for his next dramatic film, the critically acclaimed and award-winning Bus Stop (1956).
Roy Schatt (1909 - 2002), author of this famous photograph, was the photographer for the Actors Studio, an association of film professionals (actors, directors and screenwriters), located in New York and founded in 1947 by Elia Kazan, Cherl Crawford and Robert Lewis. Actors Studio is recognized worldwide for its work in teaching acting, with innovative techniques that allow actors to completely submerge themselves in their characters. There, he met promising young actors such as James Dean, Steve McQueen and Marilyn Monroe. Mentor and friend, Roy Schatt obtained intense, sincere portraits of them, very different from the formatted images of the time.
In 1955, Roy Schatt managed to create some of the most moving portraits of Marilyn Monroe, who attended Strasberg Theater public school sessions. In this photograph, he stands out among students in dark suits, attentive, especially natural and simple. The beauty that emanates from this photograph is particularly simple and moving.
