To Rubem Braga with a hug from his old friend E. Di Cavalcanti. Rio, 16 January 65.

Emiliano di Cavalcanti (1897 - 1976) was one of the most important Brazilian artists: he is remembered as a painter, draftsman, illustrator and caricaturist. In Brazil, he idealized the famous Modern Art Week in São Paulo, illustrated books by Vinícius De Moraes or Jorge Amado and worked with Oscar Niemeyer to decorate the Palácio da Alvorada, the residence of Brazilian presidents.

Emiliano di Cavalcanti also traveled abroad, especially in Europe, since the 1920s. He used to stay in Paris where he frequented Picasso, Léger, Matisse, Satie, Cocteau and other French intellectuals. His works have been exhibited in London, Berlin, Brussels, Amsterdam and Paris. Rubem Braga, a friend of Emiliano di Cavalcanti, recipient of this autographed booklet, was one of the best Brazilian chroniclers and brother of the poet Newton Braga.
