Good condition of conservation.
Unique piece.
In October 1887, the imperial couple, Dom Pedro II and Empress Teresa Cristina, were not living permanently in France, but were merely traveling. Dom Pedro II and his wife made frequent trips to Europe, both for the emperor's health reasons and for cultural and scientific interests. They maintained their official residence in Brazil, but spent long periods abroad, especially in Europe. Dom Pedro II's travels were well documented and were part of his routine, since he was an erudite monarch interested in various areas of knowledge, taking advantage of these trips to expand his studies and cultural contacts.
To my knowledge, this portrait is the only one signed by the imperial couple to have appeared on the market in the last twenty years.
