Translated from French: " Once again, a thousand thanks for your interesting and moving interpretation of me and my works, cordially VILLA LOBOS."
Brazil has immense riches, and music is one of them: we always think of Bossa Nova by Tom Jobim, João Gilberto and Vinícius de Moraes. But there are countless styles, musicians and compositions that delight human ears (including mine!) and inspire other musicians around the world, for centuries. Villa Lobos is a Brazilian artist of world reference, and this telegram is written proof - was it necessary? - of this immense talent.
These lines from the composer's hand are notable here, with an unusual signature (made to be clearly legible in the telegrams) and especially the part: “interesting and moving interpretation about me and my works”, which demonstrates how an artist, even already renowned , can be touched by the interest of the public and their peers.
Another interesting point: letters, dedications or telegrams gain interest and value when the recipient is well identified and renowned. This is the case here, as Jacques Chailley is a well-known French musicologist and composer, and one of the leading figures in post-World War II French musical life.
Finally, this telegram is dated 1957, at the very end of Villa-Lobos' life, who died in 1959.
