By the 1970s, Pelé was already a living legend of world football. He began his professional career at age 16 with Santos Futebol Clube and had already won three World Cups with the Brazilian national team (1958, 1962, and 1970), becoming widely recognized as the greatest football player in history. During this decade, Pelé continued to play for Santos and maintained his prominent position on the international sports scene, further expanding his image as a symbol of Brazilian football excellence worldwide.

This postcard from the 1970s honoring Pelé, produced by the Santos Department of Tourism, Culture, and Sports. On the back, there's a color photograph of Pelé on the Vila Belmiro pitch, wearing Santos' white uniform, juggling the ball. On the opposite side, the card features bilingual text (Portuguese and English) introducing Pelé as the "King of Football" and the greatest player in the world, highlighting his career that began at age 16 and his loyalty to Santos Futebol Clube. There's also a handwritten dedication in blue: "To João Alberto from my friend Edson = Pelé," which gives the piece a personal and authentic character.

Pelé signed many autographs throughout his life, but those dating from his youth, especially from the time when he was still a Santos player, are particularly rare and highly sought after by collectors around the world.
